The Benefits of Melatonin to Assist with Long Covid Recovery



Long Covid is the term used to describe the lingering effects of Covid-19. These symptoms can last for months after the initial infection and, in some cases, even longer. As a result, many people are turning to natural supplements to help with their recovery. One supplement that is gaining traction is melatonin, an over-the-counter sleep aid.


If you are suffering from Long Covid, or know someone who is suffering from Long Covid, you would know that sleep issues and Long Covid go hand in hand. I am not a doctor so I cannot say as to why this is, but I would guess the inflammation and stress on your body is making your immune system go into overdrive, thus making it harder to fall asleep. My fitness band tells me that my resting heart rate has gone up substantially since I came down with Long Covid.


I started taking Melatonin just for sleep, not knowing it had applications in Recovering from Long Covid. My doctors actually recommended this to me after I had been taking it. I added Magnesium (described in another post) and I have found that sleep now comes much easier for me. Life truly is a lot better when you do not need to dread tossing and turning for hours just to fall asleep!


I began doing quite a bit of research as to how Melatonin can help those with Long Covid, so below we will explore the benefits of melatonin in the context of long COVID, supported by scientific evidence cited in studies published on PubMed and MDPI. [1][2]
